Introduction
The painting of Lu, Tieh-chou’s “Backyard” was commissioned by Taipei Fine Arts Museum. It was originally mounted as a Japanese folding screen. During the previous conservation treatment, the two halves of the painting were joined and framed together, resulting in misalignment of the image along the center which compromised aesthetic appreciation of the work along with numerous serious cracks and loss on the pigments layer.
Under the conservation ethics and principles, the painting was treated and returned to its original form as a Japanese folding screen, thus recovering the true splendor of an important historic artifact.
