Introduction

National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts executed the Project of the Revision and the Restoration of the Art History Achieves of Taiwan in 2020. Four of the collections created by significant masters were commissioned to RCCCR for inspection and restoration, including Eastern gouache and ink paintings from great artists LIN YU-SAN, CHEN HUI-KUN, and KUO HSUEH-HU. All four paintings hold remarkable places in the history of Taiwan’s fine art development. Among the paintings, A Ferocious Tiger Running Downhill was the first tiger ink painting created by LIN when he was 17, in 1923. The painting suffers from severe embrittlement, cracks and smudges. The staff in RCCCR conducted a comprehensive treatment and restored it back to its glorious condition. Other artworks that went under treatment in the same project were Eastern gouache masterpiece Taiwanese Traditional Convention Room (1947) by CHEN, and Autumn Sunshine (1931) by KUO.
