In 1987, NTNU, as an indicative university for fine art education in Taiwan, imported 31 highly detailed plaster replicas from The Lourve. The plaster statues were recreated from the museum collection in the scale of 1:1, they became precious models for students over the past 36 years. They also play significant roles in the research and instruction of courses such as sketching and artistic anatomy.

The plaster statues and reliefs were a part of the shared memories amongst the countless great artists graduated from NTNU. They studied and observed the lighting, postures and physique of the graceful statues created by the Greek, the Roman, and the renaissance masters. After a long time, most these plaster replicas had been damaged due to the humid environment and dust in the air. Some of them even suffered from cracks, erosion and stain.

NTNU Department of Fine Art initiated the “Plaster Restoration Project” in March 2020, the project was organised by Chang Yuan Feng, the director of RCCCR. Inviting expert from Japan to open courses for students of the National Taiwan University Alliance. The restoration of the 31 statues were completed by June 2022.
